A small stone tower enclosed by a stone wall with outer bank & ditch (partly rock-cut moat). C20th poet Edwin Muir spent his childhood at the Bu which may be on the site of the Norse farmstead, with outbuildings & a great hall, lived in by the family who built the castle as a refuge.
