The golden cross - the highest point in Germany on the summit of Zugspitze at 2,962m above sea level. Zugspitze is located on the Austrian border beside the town of Grainau in the district of Garmisch-Partenkirchen in the federal-state of Bavaria. The border goes right through the mountain. The climb of the last metres from the peak area to touch the golden cross at the absolute summit is a very popular sport for athletic visitors.
