In 1722 the 'Old Church', with some stonework dating back to 1602-3, was rebuilt after falling into ruin during the English Civil war. From the outside it looked much like a lime-washed cottage with a porch and a slab-stone roof. After the completion of a new church in Stalling Busk in 1909, the old church, again in a poor state of repair fell into its present ruinous state. This black and white image captures the enduring strength of the now preserved structure as it stands south of Semer Water in the beautiful dale of Raydale, North Yorkshire.
