Photograph of front cover of a first edition pop-up book publishes in 1934 by the Blue Ribbon Company, part of their Midget Pop-Up series featuring popular children's storied. Although the original 'The Story of Little Black Sambo' by Helen Bannerman (1862-1946) had no racist overtones; this edition published in the 1930's no doubt caused offense and assisted in the story being criticised and blacklisted. The story has since been re-illustrated and the character's names changed. Credit: Private Collection / Contraband Collection
