The Lancashire and Yorkshire Railway Barton Wright LYR Class 23 0-6-0ST tender engine introduced 1891. Used for shunting and short freight working these small engines were long lived the last example was withdrawn from service in 1964. This locomotive was based at Aintree and was operated by LMS passing on to British Railways in 1948 finally withdrawn in 1955. Photographed circa 1950 BHZ
