One of the best preserved castles in Greece, is Fortezza, the Venetian castle of Rethymnon. It is a huge castle, constructed around late 16th century. Its construction lasted around 10 years and it took the forced work of tens of thousands locals to be completed. On the way that leads to the Fortezza, (the locals call it "Pasarela") you can find dozens of cafes and taverns.
