The Castle Pyramid (El Castillo Pyramid) or Temple of Kukulcan, Chichen Itza Archaeological Site, Chichen Itza, Yucatan, Mexico. Chichen Itza is the largest and best preserved of all the Mayan cities. Abandoned in 1182, it is reknown for the dominating Temple of Kukulcan, a calendar pyramid with four stairways, 365 steps, one for each day of the year, and 18 terraces, the number months in the Mayan calendar.
