2009 is the 200th anniversary of the first calls for independence from the Spanish empire in Bolivia (and the rest of S America); calls which eventually led to the Wars of Independence and the founding of all the countries in S America. July is the main month for the celebrations in Bolivia, particularly in La Paz as July 16th is the anniversary of the founding of La Paz and a public holiday. Translation: "La Paz, 200 years freedom, a fire that never goes out". The symbol represents the torch of liberty.
Location: Plaza San Pedro, La Paz, Bolivia
