Statue of Lady Constantia de Frecheville and her illegitimate son in St Leonards Church, Scarcliffe, nr Bolsover in Derbyshire. Conserved in 2007 with financial support from the Heritage Lottery Fund and the Council for the Care of Churches. A local folktale has it that Lady Constantia was out riding in the fog with her infant son and the bells of the church guided her back to safety. In gratitude she left lands to the church and a curfew bell is symbolically rung in her memory 3 weeks either side of Christmas. Mystery surrounds who she actually was.
