Shia Muslims celebrate the festival of Karbala (also known as Moharram) in Bangalore, India. The festival is celebrated in honour of Hazrat Imam Hussain and his followers, who were martyred at Karbala by the army of Caliph Yezid on the tenth day of the month of Muharram (in 680 AD). The men have performed acts of self-mutilation using kives or razor blades to inflict injuries on themselves and thus invoke the memory of the martyrs' bloodshed.
