Ruins of a medieval Bulgarian fortress on Trapezitsa hill in Veliko Tarnovo, Bulgaria

The fortress on Trapezitsa Hill near Veliko Tarnovo, the medieval capital of Bulgaria was built in the early 12th century. After the rulling house of Assen gained the independece of Bulgaria from the Byzantine Empire they moved their residence to the nearby Tsarvets hill and the stronghold was abandoned. It is now being restored to its former glory.
