This railway is the first to connect the Tibet Autonomous Region to China. The line includes the Tanggula Pass, which, at 5,072 m (16,640 feet) above sea level, is the world's highest rail track. The train in this image is traveling across the grass plains towards Lhasa.China has been criticised by Tibetan Independence groups for having built the railway to strengthen its political control over Tibet and environmental impact
