Sir Algernon Edward West, GCB (1832–1921) was Principal Private Secretary to Prime Minister Gladstone. He was also a director of the South Eastern Railway. Reginald Welby, 1st Baron Welby (1832 to 1915) a British peer, former Permanent Secretary to the Treasury and former President of the Royal Statistical Society. John Arthur Godley, 1st Baron Kilbracken, GCB (1847 to 1932) was a British civil servant and the longest serving and probably the most influential Permanent Under-Secretary of State for India.
