Engraving circa 1872 entitled "The Song of the Angels". It depicts events outlined in the Gospel of Luke (Chapter 2) in which an angel of the Lord appears to shepherds tending their flocks in Bethlehem. The angel brings the shepherds "good tidings of great joy" and tells them of the birth of the Messiah and that they will find the child wrapped in bands of cloth and lying in a manger. Engraving by Samuel Sartain (1830 - 1906), based on an original painting by Thomas Moran (1837 - 1926).
