Portrait photo circa 1860 of American dwarf Lavinia Warren (1841 - 1919) - one of the tiny stars of P T Barnum's 19th century shows. Warren, born Mercy Lavinia Warren Bump, had a form of proportionate dwarfism (the body appears normally proportioned despite being abnormally small) caused by a pituitary disorder and lived until her late 70s. She married fellow dwarf General Tom Thumb (the famous stage name of Charles Sherwood Stratton) in 1863 and the pair were among the biggest celebrities of their time. Photo by Mathew B Brady.
