Portrait painting of English author, statesman and martyred Catholic saint Sir Thomas More (1478 - 1535) by Hans Holbein the Younger (c1497 - 1543). More was an important government official under King Henry VIII and served as Lord Chancellor from 1529 to 1532 but was beheaded for treason in 1535 after refusing to recognise the King's supremacy over the Church. He is also remembered for being the author of the book "Utopia" (1516).
