Poignant plaque in the Sheffield Memorial Park to the Bradford Pals many of whom died in the Battle of the Somme, July 1st 1916

A poignant memorial pinned to a tree in the Sheffield Memorial park on the Somme Battlefield in northern France (pas de calais) to the men of the 16th and 18th West Yorkshire Regiment also know as the Bradford Pals. The Pals battalions were raised in areas where whole groups of men from the same streets and factories were recruited. Many were not battle hardened and there was huge loss of life on the first day of the battle of the Somme on July 1st 1916.
