Near the Charlton Way Entrance to Greenwich Park this plaque marks all that remains of Montague House. It is a small, sunken tiled area that was originally a sunken bath. The house was the home of Queen Caroline, the wife of George IV, from the time she left the royal household in 1797 until she decided to leave England for good in 1804. To erase the memory of his wife George ordered the demolition of the house but the once opulent bath below ground level was left.
