Pripyat town, founded in 1970 for the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant workers and their families now stands as a ghost town within the Chernobyl Exclusion Zone in northern Ukraine. It was evacuated in 1986 after the explosion at reactor #4. On April 26, 1986, the Number Four RBMK reactor at the nuclear power plant at Chernobyl, Ukraine, went out of control during a test at low-power, leading to an explosion and fire that released large amounts of radiation into the atmosphere.
