Lighthouse of Alexandria aka Pharos of Alexandria built by the Ptolemaic Kingdom between 280 and 247 BC and between 393 and 450 ft (120 and 137 m) tall. Badly damaged by three earthquakes between 956 and 1323, it then became an abandoned ruin. One of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World popular with ancient Hellenic tourists in the 1st and 2nd centuries BC identified in surviving works by Antipater of Sidon and Philo of Byzantium. Engraving by Johann Adam Delsenbach (1687-1765) from 1721 first edition of ‘Entwurff einer historischen Architectur’, a comparative study of architecture featuring illustrations of civil and historical architecture by Johann Bernhard Fischer von Erlach (1656-1723).
