Panoramic view over Hornborgasjön (Lake Hornborga). Hornborgasjön is one of Europe's most important wetlands. The lake is a paradise for resting and breeding wetland birds. Lake Hornborga is a nature reserve with an area of more than 4,000 hectares. It is made up primarily of the lake and the shore meadows, but it also includes part of the old agricultural landscape east of the lake - Bolums lider. The reserve is designed to promote biodiversity. Breeding and resting birds that are dependent on wetlands must benefit. The small-scale cultural landscape around the lake is also important. On their way from their winter quarters in Spain to their breeding grounds, some 10,000 cranes rest at Lake Hornborga. They usually stay for a week or two to eat, dance and rest.
