Oxford, UK. 22nd May, 2017. Activists erect a fake blue plaque outside the Jericho Tavern, where Radiohead played their first gig under the name On A Friday in 1986, as part of a protest calling upon the band to cancel a concert in Tel Aviv on 19th July 2017 in support of the cultural boycott called by Palestinian organisations as part of the BDS (Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions) campaign. Radiohead started out in Oxford and the Jericho Tavern is one of several venues in the city where they played. BDS is a global campaign intended to increase pressure on Israel to end its occupation and colonisation of Palestinian land, to give full equality to Arab-Palestinian citizens of Israel and to acknowledge the right of return of Palestinian refugees.
