Philippus Baldaeus (24 October 1632 - 1671) was a Dutch minister. In 1658, the Dutch East India Company (VOC) sent Baldaeus from The Netherlands to Jaffna in northern Ceylon to work as a missionary, joining the invading Dutch force. He lived on the north of the island and documented the Tamil people extensively, which was immediately published in Dutch and German. He eventually returned to Holland and preached until he died at a relatively young age.
