Not long after sunrise the sun attempts to break through cloud cover above pleasure craft in Chicago's DuSable Harbor. Behind the harbored craft is the Chicago Marine Safety Station (formerly the Chicago Police Marine Unit Headquarters and prior to that the Chicago Coast Guard Station). The station was opened in 1936. The building's architecture is especially noteworthy because it is an example of original Cape Cod architecture so seldom seen outside of New England and the Canadian Maritime provinces. In the background, at left, is the McDonald's Ferris Wheel on Navy Pier.
