The Cardinal, who heads the church in England and Wales, has faced widespread criticism over his handling of paedophile priests, centring on his decision in 1985 - when he was Bishop of Arundel and Brighton - to move Father Michael Hill to the chaplaincy at Gatwick airport even though he knew he was a paedophile. 26/09/03: An estimated 12,000 Roman Catholics were expected to gather tonight for a Mass in Wembley Arena. The Archbishop of Westminster, Cardinal Cormac Murphy-O Connor, was due to join bishops at the Mass to mark the launch of At Your Word Lord, a programme of spiritual renewal in the diocese. The arena - more commonly associated with chart-topping bands than with the Roman Catholic faithful - was expected to draw 12,000 people from the diocese of Westminster.
