The Stone Jetty was originally built in 1853 which was part of the former harbour. The harbour used to have a railway line which transported goods from Northern England ready to ship for Ireland during the late 19th Century. Subsequently the trade declined at the beginning of the 20th Century when the Port of Heysham was built and the harbour then was used as ship's graveyard especially the decommissioning of the SS Majestic, a White Star liner. The jetty was renovated and extended during 1994/95 as part of the coastal defence work. The jetty today is enjoyed by many. There is an old lighthouse, a seasonal cafe, public art sculptures and pavement games for everyone to enjoy.
