Wounded Knee, South Dakota - A monument marks the grave of Indians killed in the Wounded Knee Massacre of 1890. In the last significant engagement in nearly four centuries of warfare between Indians and European settlers, the U.S. Army killed more than 150 Lakota Sioux - men, women, and children. The cemetery is on the Pine Ridge Reservation.
