Meadowsweet (Spirea ulmaria or Filipendula ulmaria) perennial herb native of Europe and Western Asia. Used as a strewing herb (a favourite of Elizabeth I of England), a flavouring in wine and preserves, and in pot pourr. From Amedee Masclef "Atlas des Plantes de France", Paris, 1893.
