Three-time Olympic champion Maria Hoefl-Riesch of Germany said on 20 March 2014 that she is ending her skiing career with immediate effect. The all-rounder Hoefl-Riesch was the most successful German skier in recent years as she won super-combined and slalom gold at the 2010 Olympics in Vancouver, super-combined gold at the 2014 Olympics in Sochi, two world championship titles and the 2011 overall World Cup.
