Pura Mesakih is the Mother Temple of Bali, located beneath Mount Agung (an active volcano that has recently erupted), Bali Island, Indonesia. A Pura is a Balinese Hindu temple.The Pura Besakih temple complex has Hindu origins dating back to 1284 when the first Javanese conquerors settled in Bali, but the foundations date back at least 2000 years. It is composed of several levels of temples with multiple terraces and stairs and an imposing candi bentar (split gateway) near the main entrance.
