This person is dressed as a Jacobite soldier. He is wearing a plain grey jacket and a blue bonnet with a white cockade (a white bow of ribbon, indicating he is a Jacobite). Perhaps this was more typical dress of the Lowlander or volunteer Scot. The battle of Prestonpans took place on the 21st September 1745 and was between the Jacobite army of Prince Charles Edward Stuart and Royal Troops of George II. It was won by the Jacobites.
