it has become more feasible for mining operations to process old mine dumps for the remaining gold that has not fully been extracted from the sand. the underground mining process very labour intensive and expensive. these mine dumps are blasted away with water and the slurry of mud is then piped some 40km away to brakpan on the east rand where it is processed to take out the remaining gold. pic delwyn verasamy
