Haakon VII opens the first session of the Norwegian Parliament, 1906. In 1905 Norway dissolves through a referendum and the Storting (Norwegian parliament) decision the union with Sweden. The Danish Prince Carl became King of Norway as Haakon VII. The photo shows him in 1906 at the first opening of the new Norwegian Storting in Christiania, where he read out his speech on 22 October. Next to him is Queen Maud, his wife.
