Entombment of Isabella II of Spain, Monastery of El Escorial, 1904. Isabella II ruled Spain from 1843 until the Spanish Revolution of 1868. In 1870, whilst in exile in Paris she abdicated in favour of her son, Alfonso XII. The monarchy was restored with Alfonso as king in 1874. Isabella continued to live in Paris until her death.
