Collapsed buildings in central Kobe, following the massive earthquake that devastated parts of the Kobe region in western Japan on Tuesday, January 17, 1995 at 5.46am. The quake’s focus was in northern Awaji Island, and had a magnitude of 7.2 on the Richter scale, resulting in over 6,400 deaths.
