The mural was designed in 1985 by Christine Thomas, artistic director of Wandsworth Arts at the time, and painted with the help of community artists Diana Leary and Dave Bangs. The mural evokes the local River Effra and features portraits of local residents and a prominent water wheel on the left. (More details on the web.) Painted on a north facing wall, the artwork is looking brighter than usual because in mid-summer it catches the sun in the early morning. (And, it must be admitted, it’s also been brightened up a bit on the computer.) The house hosting the mural is actually on Strathleven Road (on the left).
