(dpa) - Packaged groceries are being presented in a supermarket in Frankfurt Main, Germany, 16 July 2003. Consumer products labeled as 'light' are currently very fashionable. However, the labeling 'fat free', 'good against stress', 'makes slim' does not always hold what the advertising slogans promise. David Byrne, EU Commissioner for Health and Consumer Protection issued a guideline which prohibits unclear describtions on groceries and misleadingly advertise the advantages to health. The consumer has to be able to check on the details of contents. The food producers have to comply to clear regulations with regards to labeling and references on nutritional value.
