(dpa) - Only the ruin of the eastern wing has survived of the former residence of the sovereigns of Anhalt, in Anhalt-Zerbst, eastern Germany, 12 May 2003. The castle was destroyed by US air strikes during the Second World War. Built in 1681, it was the residence where the future Russian Tsarina Catherine II (Catherine the Great) spent her childhood.
