The premises, which belonged to the former German chemical giant IG-Farben group, accommodates since the 2001 summer term the Arts and Humanities departments of the university. The building, named after its architect H Poelzig, was considered to be the largest and most modern office building in Europe at its inauguration in 1932. During the Nazi regime the building and the IG-Farben group played a significant role in the Holocaust and the killing machine of the concentration camps. After the Second World War the premises accommodated the headquarter of the US forces in Germany.
