Detail of the weathered and damaged frieze on the monument to William Motherwell (1797-1835) in the Glasgow Necropolis. Motherwell was a poet and sometimes editor of both "The Paisley Advertiser" and "The Glasgow Courier", his poetry often featured heroic deeds and the frieze depicts two knights in combat.
