The common Buzzard is one of the birds found in Cyprus. It is mainly a winter visitor and passerby during migration. The scientific name is the Buteo buteo and the Greek name is Gerakina. It is a medium-sized bird of prey which its height reaches up to 46-58 cm. It has a wingspan of 110-132cm. The colors are not constant. Its overall color is dark brown. The common Buzzard frequents in cultivated areas, meadows and wetlands with low to medium altitude. It eats small mammals such as rats, mice and small rabbits. It eats lizards and snakes too.
