"A jet-pack propelled roller skater, hair-raising style creations and life-size dinosaurs are just some of the acts set to take to the streets of Blackpool for this year’s Showzam! Festival. In all more than 70 entertainers took to the streets of the town, performing in venues and entertaining crowds in the Winter Gardens Showzam! Central during the five-day festival. Artistic Director at LeftCoast who have programmed this year’s Showzam, said it’s a great way of engaging with people. He said: “Obviously we want everyone to be talking about it and planning to come to enjoy the different elements of the festival but, if for whatever reason people are unable to come and see what’s happening in the various venues or by simply by walking down the street. “Showzam! is all about engaging with people and giving them the opportunity to enjoy live theatre and performances. Street theatre does just that without anybody needing to even change their normal routine. That’s the beauty of it, so if you are at work but have nipped out for a sandwich or if you are visiting one of the town’s magnificent attractions, then the odds are you’re going to enjoy some pretty spectacular street theatre from Showzam! at some point.” Highlights of the street theatre included: •Ulik will take to the streets beating his over-sized drums and firing confetti from a gun while also showing off his amazing roller-skating skills as he’s thrust forward by a jet-pack •Join the Delinus tour and hop on a tiny bus where driver Suzy will help you discover new paths •The hugely entertaining Mysterieuse Coiffures from France will literally leave your hair standing on end as you are treated to a bizarre and very memorable new hair-do •Hocus Pocus Sideshow of Curiosities will be taking to the streets with their Bearded Lady and fortune-telling Gypsy •Giant, pre-historic beasts from Close Up will charge through crowds looking for food to calm their hunger.
