Primary sector of white coir production comprises harvesting of matured coconut fruit, dehusking to remove coconut green husk which is retted in water (backwater) for about 9 months then removed it and process it for extraction of fibre mechanically. Green husk (near the worker), next retted husk on the right bank. On the left bank coconut fibre extracted from retted husk is kept for transporting to yarn processing centre. The picture shows the typical environment of coir (yarn rope) primary sector activity & the highly polluted environment where all processes are being conducted.
