Leopard geckoes (Eublepharis macularius) are found in dry rocky grasslands and deserts of southern Asia from Afghanistan through India to Pakistan and also Iran, They are crepuscular, active during the twilight hours, when the temperature is more favorable to them. In the wild they are solitary, it is thought they feed on a wide range of insects. They store excess fat in their tails which they can utilize when food is scarce. Leopard geckos can also shed these tails to distract predators when in danger. They are popular pets, easily kept and they readily breed in captivity.
