Brownlow House is also known locally as Lurgan Castle. The property is now owned by Lurgan Loyal Orange District Lodge. Built in 1833 it was designed in Elizabethan style by William Henry Playfair the building is unique in its style architecturally in Northern Ireland. It was damaged extensively by fire during the troubles in Northern Ireland but has been magnificently restored. It is very much an "undiscovered" building outside its own locality but with a tea room and weddings, conferences etc its unique architecture grandeur and history will become more widely known across the Northern Ireland, tourists and visitors. American troops stayed here during the Second World War and US General Eisenhower is reputed to have stayed at the building.
