BBC director general Greg Dyke appears before the Culture, Media and Sport select committee. The BBC refused to comment on the contents of its annual report, which are meant to remain secret until put before the committee. But there has been widespread speculation on what it will reveal, including the state of the broadcaster's finances. A 1 billion deficit in the BBC's pension fund was revealed earlier this month when director of finance John Smith wrote to workers to reassure them that the final-salary scheme would remain in place, despite the shortfall.
