The writer had become world famous by her novel ''Gone with the wind'' which was publicated in 1936. This most successful bestseller of the United States which covers the American Civil War from the view of the Southerners, was screened in 1939 with Clark Gable and Vivien Leigh - and became, just as the book, a world wide success. Margaret Mitchell died on the age of 48 on August 16th 1949 in her native town.
