Anti-Vietnam war protest in London on 21 July 1968: Demonstrators clash with police near the American Embassy in Grosvenor Square. The following day Home Secretary James Callaghan told the House of Commons that while three to four thousand marchers walked peacefully along an agreed route from Trafalgar Square through Grosvenor Square to Hyde Park’s Speakers' Corner, around 500 stayed behind with the evident intention of making trouble. Some police and demonstrators suffered minor injuries, resulting in 49 arrests as rubbish was set alight and property damaged.
