A U.S. Navy T-45C training jet crashed into San Diego Bay while the pilot was attempting to land at Naval Air Station North Island. The unidentified pilot, who was practicing for aircraft carrier flight operations ejected without injury from the aircraft before it crashed into the bay. A passing boater pulled the pilot to safety. The crash occurred at 2:00 p.m. (Pacific Daylight Time). The US$17 million aircraft, assigned to U.S. Navy Training Squadron 9 in Mississippi will be removed from San Diego Bay by crane later in the evening. The pilot was transported to a local military hospital.
