A stern oarlock or forcola (plural forcole) photographed in the studio on a white background. Usually made of walnut, forcole are used in traditional Venetian boats. It exists three great kinds of forcole: the prow forcola, the stern forcola and the side one. They are unlike any other types of oarlocks because of the unique upright rowing position of the oarsman, facing forward.
